Leeds Bradford Airport update

April 6, 2021

STOP PRESS!

Robert Jenrick, Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, announced on Tuesday April 6th that the application to expand Leeds Bradford Airport has been delayed indefinitely, pending the Secretary of State’s decision.  This announcement was right on the decision deadline.

This is great news, and a great success for GALBA and all groups who have been supporting them, including ourselves.

However, it comes with some caveats:

  • There is not yet any mention of a public enquiry.
  • This announcement may be to keep the multiple stories of airport expansion out of the news as we build up to COP26.
  • This may be to give the government time to consider its response to the UK Climate Change Committee’s 6th Carbon Budget.
  • GALBA are continuing to press for a public enquiry – please see their latest campaign

We have previously written 2 letters to Mr Jenrick about the expansion plans, which you can download below.

We will update this story as soon as we have more detail.
