2026 will be remembered for many things. One big thing will be a global “anti-AI, anti-data centre” movement.

Why is AI and why are data centres so controversial?

Well, here’s a basic list:

• Energy use
• Climate busting emissions
• Using our precious drinking water for cooling
• Heat and noise pollution in our communities
• AI slop, misinformation, disinformation
• Mass redundancies when AI takes our jobs
• Some AI bosses even say they will make us extinct!
