It feels odd for Wakefield to be the centre of media attention because of the by-election. However, we are an it is an opportunity to shine a light on parliamentary politics.
The election was called because of the resignation of our last MP, at a time of real scrutiny on standards in public life. This is also a time of accelerating climate breakdown, increasing climate anxiety, and a deafening climate silence from the main parliamentary parties.
Whilst we may be swimming against the political tide, we are compelled to kick hard to get climate and nature on the political agenda. To support this, we have published a set of “Climate Pledges” for candidates. You can download these here.
At the time of writing, none of the candidates have responded to these. We will be applying pressure on candidates between now and the election to firstly get a response, and secondly gain support for meaningful climate action.
